Born in the Greater Toronto area, J.R Newton resides with his lovely wife of 22 years and their four children. J.R. Newton studied at the OCAD University, as well as the Academy of Realist Art. His focus was to master traditional classical oil painting, in the techniques of the Old Masters. His influences as an artist include Dore, Innis, Annigoni and many other influential Renaissance Artists. Studying the Old Masters encouraged J. R. Newton to develop a sense of understanding of technique and visual language that would enhance his narrative visions. They made aware the importance of form, color and technique, which brought forth his poetic visions.
R. Newton is regarded as a distinguished artist, whose oil paintings and portraits hang in both public and private collections throughout the world. His commissions include imaginative art, portraits, landscapes, still life painting, as well as murals, tattoo drawings and restoration art. J. R. Newton has won numerous awards, and was recognized as a finalist at the Art Renewal Centre Competition, in the Imaginative Realism category.
The progression of his work has become more refined throughout his career, and has grown in a style that is distinguished as his own. J. R. Newton’s vision is not to paint every detail, but to encourage the viewer to participate in the painting as a whole, such as visually and emotionally. His overall goal as an artist is to have the viewer look into another window of life, and live in that brief moment, and become eternally inspired.

J.R. Newton is joining in this year’s Inktober. For those who don’t know what Inktober is, it’s a month-long art challenge in which every artist that participates must draw a topic that’s chosen for you every day of the month, but only in ink.

J. R. Newton’s portraits are created for family and loved ones, as an heirloom for generations to come. His portraits capture the essence of his model in a way that brings their beauty and personality to the canvas.
Landscapes
J. R. Newton’s landscapes are created to have the viewer become invited into his poetic and allegorical images. He as an artist wishes for both artist and viewer to unite in imagination and inspiration, in order to glorify nature in its entire splendour.Â
Still Life
Still life painting gives J. R. Newton the opportunity to glorify inanimate objects, where ordinary objects become intriguing and compelling. One advantage of the still life art form is that it allows J. R. Newton much freedom to experiment with an arrangement of elements within a composition of a painting.
Murals
J. R. Newton’s murals are created to enhance and elevate interior and exterior space, capturing his client’s visions of creativity. He works closely with his client to bring their visual ideas to life.
